PassportsVisas

To enter Ecuador, every traveler needs a passport valid for at least six months after the returning date. Additionally, you will need proof of returning ticket to your country or other country visited after Ecuador.

When arriving in Ecuador, you will be asked to fill an embarkation/disembarkation card that will be then stamped in your passport. Losing this card might create some problems upon exiting the country or at check points within the country. We recommend you to keep it carefully within your passport at all times. With this card, you’ll be able to leave the country at any time within the time frame of your tourist visa without any problem.

Once you passed the immigration, you’ll go through a quick inspection by the customs officials, which usually goes smoothly and fast, as tourist rarely get any trouble, unless carrying a large amount of identical object suspicious to be sold in the country. Remember that importing goods is expensive as there are a high taxation fees. Souvenirs and gifts are not subject to taxes upon entering or exiting the country.

While traveling within Ecuador, carry your passport at all times; there are frequent check points on the roads. Within the cities, leave and lock your passport in the room or hotel safe, and carry a valid copy of it made by your country embassy that can be recognizable by any police agent. If asked for your official papers by a person in the street, look for identification, or request to be taken to the nearest police station. If refused, don’t show any type of document, as it might be a fraud.

In case of stolen passport, report it immediately to your embassy or consulate in the country.
