  • About Hostería Cantaelmar

Located in front of a beautiful beach and enclosed by amazing gardens, Hosteria Cantaelmar is one of the most complete eco-tourism destinations in Ecuador, promoting the creation of spaces where harmony and beauty, respect for nature's laws, community sentiment, responsibility over present and future life on Earth and the health and happiness of future generations are combined.

Mostly built in Caña Guadua, one of the most abundant types of native bamboo in the Ecuadorian territory and also the most valuable from an ecological point of view, the property is the largest caña guadua complex in America, regrouping restaurant, conference rooms, cabins, towers, botanical gardens, private homes and service areas within more than seven thousand square meters.

Constructions are designed to take advantage of sunlight and sea breeze. The bioclimatic designs, the natural materials, the landscape handling, the use of clean source of energy and recycling systems have made the constructions and their surroundings a complex full of beauty and harmony.

The property makes its own natural fertilizers and uses biological methods to cure and prevent sicknesses. The organic alternative agriculture represents the elimination of use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.

Within the ecological village, five acres are destined for the development of a training center, meant to serve the necessities of local communities, with the essential purpose to develop diverse researches focused on the best knowledge and management of environmental, social and cultural matters. With Cantaelmar's initiative and funding, helped by the involvement of the entire population of Puerto Rico, an entire system of waste handling and recycling plant was implemented.

Cantaelmar serves as a wonderful base from which to explore Machalilla National Park, Los Frailes beach, archeological sites, the bird watching route and its more than 300 bird species along the Ayampe River, Cantalapiedra Wildlife Sanctuary which holds one of the most beautiful and best conserved forests of the Chongon Colonche mountain range, and Isla de la Plata where many Galapagos bird species can be found.

Cantaelmar offers many activities such as whale watching, horseback riding on the beach, biking, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, and canopying, its newest adventure designed for the family, during which you'll feel like flying over the trees.

For many years now, Cantaelmar has improved the living conditions of local communities generating many sources of employment, supporting and encouraging the practice of the agro-ecology and bio-architecture as well as the production of handicrafts. It has honored its motto "An impassionate embrace of life".

Destinations

Overview
Machalilla National Park has an extension of 55,092 hectares distributed between the continental zone
and the marine zone. It
occupies a great part of the western hydrographic system of the Chongon-Colonche mountain range which produces micro climatic changes unique to this place, without mentioning the spectacular cliffs on the coast line.
Highlights
Machalilla’s dry forest is one of the most interesting forests in the world due to its high degree of endemism containing up to twenty percent of endemic species. The most famous touristic sites are the 'Isla de la Plata' and the white-sand pristine beach of 'Los Frailes'.
