Tierra del Volcán
Just 1 ½ hour away from Quito, Tierra del Volcán is located in one of the most beautiful and privileged places in Ecuador, the Cotopaxi National Park. Tierra del Volcán has three haciendas available in the foothills of different volcanoes that surround the majestic Cotopaxi, each with its own rich ecosystem and distinctive climate. Locate on the foothill of the Rumiñahui volcano at and altitude of 3600 m, Hacienda Porvenir is the center of operations and offers lodging for up to 32 people, with its own restaurant and comfortable relaxing areas all equipped with a fireplace. The farm house, or "casa de hacienda", the name given to these large buildings, was built with local materials: straw, eucalyptus wood, adobe and sun-dried brick.
The “Chagra” community represents the team that works hard to bring personalized service and a great experience to the guests. By sharing their knowledge and traditions, they are a true example of the cultural diversity that exists in Ecuador. Passionate and experts of horses, the Chagras offer their experience to each of the guests who can participate in traditional activities at the hacienda, such as harvesting organic products, feeding animals, and elaboration of cheeses, a perfect way to understand the daily life of the community.
The hacienda’s basic principles are to take care of nature and to aid the inhabitants of the region. For these reasons, Tierra del Volcán, together with “Fundación Páramo”, has designed community service programs such as ecological education and conservation projects. Founded in 1992, the Páramo Foundation is a private organization which goal is to foster the positive development and preservation of the region as well as the personal growth of the volunteers. Its program includes: monitoring of the protected condors of the Rumiñahui area, control over illegal hunters and fishermen, reforestation, cleaning and recycling campaigns, to name a few.- Located in one of the most privileged places in Ecuador, the Cotopaxi National Park.
