Passports & Visas

PassportsVisas

Citizens of the United States, Canada and most European countries traveling to Ecuador for tourism, business or to study do not require a visa unless they expect to stay in Ecuador for more than 90 days. The only requirements are: a valid passport for more than six months, a return ticket, and sometimes you might be ask for proof of an economic means of support for your stay within Ecuador.

Tourists from the following countries that require a visa to enter Ecuador should visit the Consulate of Ecuador in their home country before traveling (list may change without notice): Afghanistan, Algeria Bangladesh, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, EL Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, North Korea, South Korea, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tunisia, Vietnam, Yemen.

Upon entering the country, you will receive a stamp of a 90-days visa pass in your passport. However, you will also be asked to mention how many days you will stay in the country on the embarkation/disembarkation card, which will be helpful for the immigration officials in case you don’t speak Spanish.

In case you stay in the country longer than your tourist visa mentions, you will need to get a stamp on your passport before leaving the country. This stamp, called ‘salidas’, can only be obtained at the immigration offices in Quito and Guayaquil. It is a fast and easy process, although it generally comes with a small fee.
Quito: Jefatura Provincial Migración de Pichincha, Isla Seymour 44-174 & Rio Coca. Tel. (02)224-7510.
Guayaquil: Jefatura Provincial de Migración de Guayas, Av. Río Daule y Terminal Terrestre. Tel. (04)214-0202.

Last but not least, upon exiting Ecuador, you will be requested to pay a departure tax at the airport. While in Guayaquil the tax fee is USD28.00, in Quito is sums up to USD38.00 per person. You can only pay this tax by cash, and credit cards or traveler’s check won’t be accepted.
